This blog will be about as half-ass as my readership has been lately.

This week will slowly get warmer... with about a 10% chance of showers each day. By Friday and the weekend we should be getting back into the 80s.

Lightening, Thunder, Hail, Rain... May in Colorado

Once again most of the area is seeing some pretty strong afternoon showers and thunderstorms. I wanted to post an image of the radar just before 4pm today and which shows this quite well. In general the storms are moving in from the southwest, moving northeast across the city.

In addition to some soaking rains, the lightening associated with these cells have been impressive in an of themselves. Places in south Denver (Wash Park) even reported some hail earlier this afternoon.

I tried to catch some of the impressive lightening strikes on video... but I don't think that it does it justice at all. Give it a listen!

Rainy Afternoon

Heavy rain showers in the area this afternoon. Some of these storms dropped a quick half inch or inch... while other areas of the metro area saw little or no rain at all. Should continue to see temperatures in the 60s and 70s with isolated late day rain showers over the next several days.

Record Breaking Heat

Maybe.

We could set a record tomorrow! The forecast calls for temperatures to break the 90 degree mark - the official record high for May 19th is 89 degrees set back in 1991. After a brief May heatwave, we may be in for a nice change come Thursday, with temps falling off into the 60s and a 30% chance of rain at this point...

After another cool day today, Monday will give way to warmer temps and sun. By Tuesday we will likely be in the middle to upper 80s (possibly more like 90 in town) before cooling back into the seasonal 70s for the latter part of the week.
As for precipitation... Still some scattered showers in the area this afternoon and evening. Should dry things out in a hurry this week. Will keep an eye on afternoon showers, especially later in the week...

Weekend Blues

For the fifth straight weekend it looks like we are in for cool and wet weather. Over the last couple days I've watched the highs for Saturday drop a good 5-10 degrees daily... Earlier this week it looked like we would be pushing 80, now it looks like we will barely make the mid 50s. Conflicting forecasts on how much precipitation we can expect, but at the very least should see some scattered showers and drizzle with an increase in cloud cover for several days. Beginning tomorrow temperatures should drop into the 60s... staying cool through the weekend before warming again next week.

Wet April - Warm First Week of May

In my blog "Time to Talk Rain" I talked a little about the soggy April we had this year. This was good news, as without it we were facing severe drought conditions. Here are some of the numbers from the NWS:
3.22 inches of precip (1.29 inches above) normal.
7.4 inches of snow (the airport picked up less than most of us in the mid-month storm, 9.1 is average).
We have received 38.1 inches of snow this season, which is a whopping 22.3 inches below our normal 60.4 inches.

The first full week of May will start to feel a bit more summer-like... Monday and Tuesday there is a chance of afternoon showers, albeit a small chance, and then we should really clear things out and warm things up. By Saturday we could break 80 degrees for the first time this year.
